Tanili - An Afrocuban Folktale is a magical story based on an Afrocuban folktale. The tale tells of how Domitila and her grandson, Tanili, use the enchanting song of a lizard to summon the neighbors to assist in the harvest of their cotton. Even the rich but reluctant Antonio cannot resist the charming influence of the lizard's song.
The story takes place in post-slavery Cuba. It shows love and respect for diversity. The recommended age of readling level for this book is 7-9 years old. But the story is loved by all ages.
This book has been highly praised and recommended by storytellers, teachers, librarians, educators and customers. Here are some reviews:
The story is beautifully illustrated in full color by Mary Ann Hanson. — Elizabeth Fisher, Author
Tanili is an excellent example of a multicultural folktale. It proves itself as an excellent book for cultural diversity by providing both English and Spanish text. My children enjoyed it. We will definitely purchase your other stories. We are true fans. Thanks for sharing your gift with the world. — Janelle Gregg, Mother/Satisfied Customer
Tanili is a wonderful Cuban-folktale based on a post-slavery era in Cuba. It’s about a lizard that has an enormous, magical impact on it’s residents. Tanili can transform you, and allows us to see that color does not define who we are and as long as we work together, anything is possible. — J. Truman
Thank you for the Lizard’s Song. — Anthony Garcia, Tucson, AZ
