Today is the last day of 2008. What a year! This year, lot of things happened, worldwide and domestically.

First, sharp fluctuation in oil prices had the world in jitters. The oil price reached a historical high of 147.27 dollars per barrel on July 11, while dropped dramatically in December. On Dec. 19, New York oil prices fell to 33.87 dollars per barrel, the lowest in five years.

Next, natural disasters ravaged China (snow storm) and Myanmar (tropical storm), affecting millions of people and causing billions of dollars of economic losses.

In world politics, Thailand was rocked by continued political turmoil, six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue failed to reach a consensus, Georgia’s army launched a sudden offensive on Tskhinvali of South Ossetia in the name of protecting Russian peacekeeping forces and Russian citizens, India’s financial capital, Mumbai, was shaken by a terrorist attack, and Mid-east peace process was heavily frustrated by Israeli’s air strikes.

In mid 2008, China caught the attention of the whole world by successfully holding the 29th Olympic and Paralympic Games. China made tremendous efforts in planning and preparing for this year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games and surprised the world with its stunningly splendid opening ceremony.

Soon the spotlight was taken by the presidential election in the US. Barack Obama made the history by being chosen as the first African-American candidate of the Democratic Party and also made the history to win the presidency.

2008 was also marked as the worst financial crisis and recession since the Big Depression, with climbing numbers of unemployment, shocking news of bankruptcy of banks, chain stores, and auto makers.

An eventful year, isn’t it? Any more news for 2008?

Yes!

DD arrived in June 2008 healthily. She weighed 7.06 pounds and was 201/2 inches. And she is doing well…

For 2009, I wish DD will continue to grow healthily and happily; I wish M will come home every day safe and sound; I wish M will keep his job and we will still have food, shelter, and medical insurance; I wish I myself healthy and have no worries, and have another child if it is possible; I wish everybody we know–family members, relatives and friends–have peace and love their heart.

Last but not the least, I wish peace on the earth and our world become a better place to live.
