This year’s Thanksgiving – 2009

For the year 2009, I am thankful for the grace of God which has allowed my family to stay healthy, safe and sound for a whole year around.

I feel grateful that M is still employed until this day. And I feel indebted to millions of nameless people who make our peaceful, organized, simple and routine life possible, a lot of whom I probably will never get a chance to know.

The reason why NOT to teach babies pinyin

Because starting from pinyin to learn Chinese may intervene or even interrupt the linkage-establishing process babies need for their future language development and growth, my suggestion is not to teach babies pinyin when they just start to learn language.

Baby’s growth, month 16

At month 16, DD further challenged her physical limits and learned to use tools. She became a creative climber.

Her language development reached a milestone. She understood much more than she could speak. It was amazing to watch her do (or not do) exactly as we said, English from M and Chinese from me. She also began to show the urge to build social connections, especially with children.
