Last year this time, we used DD’s picture to make a Christmas photo card (see Baby Christmas card). The feedback overwhelmed our expectations. Relatives, friends and coworkers love this perfect Christmas card with our perfect model. Therefore, in the beginning of 2009, M and I planned to take pictures of DD all year around and choose her best pictures to make calendars for 2010.
This is the way we planned. We take baby pictures every month all year around. And we try to dress DD according to the major holidays of that month, if it is possible. For example, For February, the major holidays are Valentine’s Day and Chinese Lunar New Year. So when we take pictures, we dressed DD with traditional Chinese costumes or clothes with Valentine’s theme.
When we are ready to make the calendars, we use the best pictures taken in one particular month for the same month of the next year. For an instance, we only use the pictures taken in February 2009 for February 2010. This way enables us to easily compare what DD is looking right now with what she looked like one year ago.
We also decided to make baby calendar this way every year. By the time when she grows up, all the calendars will be grouped as a complete and precious collection of DD’s lovely childhood, recorded month by month, year and year.
This is what we planned. The reality didn’t go exactly as what I thought. First of all, it was quite difficult to seat a baby and let her stay posed for a perfect shot. Then, I had to think about appropriate costumes, sets, and scenery to match the holidays. I remember I was looking everywhere for a bunny dress and pink eggs for Easter.
M told me not to forget our real intention to make a baby calendar: to snap those dear moments before they fade as time passes by. So, he said, just relax and enjoy the time she is with us, and the best pictures will come.
Here it is. DD’s first baby calendar is on the way. We are looking forward to sharing those dear moments with grandparents, uncles and aunts, and friends.
