“It is time to send Christmas cards.” I said to M.
“Yes”. M answered, continuing browsing the newspaper.
“I want to do something special this year,” I said, “how about making our own Christmas cards? We can buy a box of photo cards and print the photos ourselves. ”
“That is a good idea,” M closed the newspaper, “we have a perfect model.”
Yes, we have a prefect model this year. She is so too cute and too pretty to anybody to say no.
But our perfect model didn’t understand her “duty” and was not quite cooperative.
First, I dressed DD in a lovely reindeer sleepwear with a “Santa’s helper” on the front. Then I matched her pajamas with a cute Santa Clause hat with “my first Christmas” on the trim.
Since she couldn’t sit up by herself, I placed DD against a bundle of blanket at the corner of her crib. Then I went to the other side of the crib, positioned my camera and tried to catch a perfect shot of her.
At first, she just looked at me and the camera with a cool looking on her face.
“DD, it is for Christmas. I need you to smile at mommy. Please, smile.” I said.
She simply ignored my request and kept her “be cool” expression. So M began to make all kinds of noises and faces. She giggled.
What a wonderful smile! But she looked at the direction of M rather than the camera.
M stepped behind of me and continued to make all kinds of silly faces. DD squealed and laughed, weaving her hand happily. M was so funny that even I could hardly hold myself from laughing.
I positioned her right in the middle in my camera: not too left, not too right, leaving some space on the top and bottom. And I slowly pressed the shut button…
RATS! Our beautiful model laughed so much that she lost her balance and slide. I put down the camera and repositioned her back to the focus.
Back to the beginning…
After several tries, finally I caught several shots of her and presented to M.
“Look pretty good,” he commented.
“Not quite right,” I looked at preview screen, “Not enough warm light.” Since I was trained as a professional before, I should at least propose some professional critics.
M made an exaggerative facial expression, “do you know how hard to keep baby entertained?”
“Yes, I know”, I patted his shoulder, “but we need a perfect photo. It is for Christmas.”
Back to the beginning… AGAIN!
This time I placed a 40W light bulb in front of the crib. In order to avoid the light shining directly into DD’s eyes, I tilted the light bulb upward so that the light could refract onto baby’s face.
After several tries, again, finally I got several good shots. After uploading them onto the computer, we chose one and had it printed out.
DD looked so joyful and adorable on the photo. Yes, a perfect Christmas card with a perfect model!
