During month five, DD’s fingers continued to get more and more dextrose. She wanted to grab anything that was in her reach. She was amazed by shadow and sparkling light. The frequency of her bowl movements slowed down. She began to stay late at night. And solid food was added to help her sleep longer at night.
Week 18: DD continued to hold her own head without any support. Her fingers continued to become more dexterous. She tried to grab a piece of paper, postcard, pen, or any object that happened to be within her reach. She also became stronger. She didn’t let go the toy until I pulled it hard.
She was fascinated by the shadow when I played my fingers into the shape of bird, dog, or peacock against the sunlight. Very soon she figured out the shadow was created by my moving fingers. She kept looking back and forth the shadow and my dancing fingers.
Her curiosity was aroused again when I used laser pen to draw all kinds of shapes on the wall. Her eyes followed the red dot wherever it went. This was a good stimulation to her brain.
Week 19: DD tried to grab postcards from the table. She still had difficulty in picking up a piece of paper, but she had no problem in picking up a single grape. (Of course, the grape went into my mouth, not hers).
She developed the tendency of enjoy being held. She frustrated, complained or threatened to cry when we put her down.
She enjoyed splashing water when she took the bath. As a rat baby, she likes water.
Week 20: Since this week, DD began to poop less frequently than before. She only had bowl movements every four days, which worried me a lot. Her stool became sticky like a paste and quite smelly. Did she have constipation?
She said “wa-wa” to me. But when I mimicked her tone and repeated the same word to her, she was scared and cried. Interesting!
She was amazed by the sparkling Christmas froggy toy Grandma bought for her, especially when Iturned off the light in the room.
She wanted us to put fingers into her mouth and rubbed her gum, probably starting her teething time. She also began to go to bed later than before, sometimes even as late as 11:00 pm.
Week 21: DD preferred to sleep on her side or her tummy. She seemed to be tired of lying on her back all the time. She still got herself stuck between bars of the crib in the early morning and yelled loudly for rescue.
She began to weak up more frequently at night. One night she woke up at 1:00am, 3:00am, 6:00am, crying for food. So I began to feed her baby rice cereal at 8:00 pm daily to see whether solid food helps her sleep longer.
Week 22: This week DD only pooped once every four days, sometime even five days. One day I happened to see how she pooped. She pushed very hard to get the stool out.
She could put her toes or heels into her mouth and licked them. She wanted to “eat” her toes every time when I changed diapers for her. She got upset when I moved her tasty toes away.
She also wanted to taste everything that was close to her. She pressed her nose flat against the screen of her plan pen in order to get close enough to taste it. Very cute!
