This month I introduced solid food to DD. She enjoyed fruits, enjoyed sweet potato and spinach, was fine with rice cereal and oatmeal. She accepted steamed and grinded green beans. She began to have the idea of attention. She smiled when I interacted with her, and screeched when I ignored her. She learned to pass a toy from one hand to the other, bear some weight on her legs when held upright, and “blow raspberry”. She also formed a bad habit of staying up late at midnight.

Week 27: I trained DD to pass the toy from one hand to the other. When I gave her one toy and handed her a second one, normally she dropped the first toy and took the second one. Later she learned to pass the first toy to the other hand and then took the second toy.

She could bear some weight on legs when I held her upright. Actually she was the one doing most of the standing. I was helping with her balance.

I introduced baby cereal to her daily. She likes the brown rice better than oatmeal. She still dislikes the flavor of Poly-Vi-Sol.

Week 28: I added carrots into her cereal. She was ok with carrots. But her stool turned to be quite hard and dry. She did not have a bowl movement until the fourth day. The problem with her bowl movements returned. Every time she had to push really hard to get the stool out. I felt so sorry for her.

Her bowl movements improved when I fed her sweet potatoes. She likes its sweet flavor. She also began to “sing” by herself. A nice solo!

I put her in the high chair when we had dinner. She likes the intimacy of becoming part of a group. She kept smiling at us and it was so sweet!

This week she also formed a bad habit; she refused to go to sleep when I laid her down in her crib. She cried stubbornly for 30 minutes. Finally we gave up and picked her up. She was still upset and sobbed on M’s shoulder for 20 minutes.

She also began to wake up at midnight and refused to go right back to sleep. Several times she stayed up for two hours. I was so tired on that night when I was up with her.

Week 29: DD began to babble, combining vowels and consonants such as na-na-na, ba-ba-ba, ma-ma-ma, and da-da-da.

She figured out how to tremble her lips and made noises. M said this is called “blowing raspberry”. She also likes to screech loudly, not caring whether I was on the phone or talking to M. I believe she must do this to catch our attention while I was afraid yelling so loud might hurt her voice.

I added steamed and grinded green beans into her baby cereal. At first, she was puzzled by the flavor. After a few more bites, she accepted it.

She loves apples. Since it is not a good idea to give her any fruit juice at this age, I let her suck the pulp after I mashed the apple into smaller pieces.

Week 30: I introduced spinach to her. She likes the flavor and her bowl movements also greatly improved. Her stool came out fast and smooth. I was really happy about that.

This week DD was up at 1:00 am one night and refused to go back to sleep. I left her in the crib. She was upset and cried stubbornly for half an hour. Finally, I surrendered and got up to hold her for a while.

Another night she was up from 4:00 am to 6:30 am. M said we needed to find a way to break her of this bad habit.
