Yesterday, march 15, grandma held a baby shower for me at her home. My first baby shower!
It was a small-scale, all-woman home party. Cozy, affectionate, and warm!
Grandma invited our neghbors Marsha and Joyce, her friend Senday, and my friend Karren. Aunt Chris and great grandma attened our party too.
First, grandma asked everybody to give me a tip to be a new mother.
Grandma told me the golden rule as a new mother: when baby sleeps, you sleep. In that way, I can get enough rest, as everybody might know, being a new mother is a arduous and continual work.
Marsha told me a tip from her persoanl experience with her grandson: let the baby have her own room and sleep on her own bed from the very begining. Otherwise, she said, you will never get a quiet night to sleep, because the baby will always has something to wake you up at night.
Sendy’s tip is how to influence babies to eat vegatables or fruits. Her secret was to grind vegetables or fruits via a blender, put the pulp into the cubicles of an ice tray and freeze them. Whenever her baby was hungry, she would thaw one pulp cubicle in the microwave and gave it to her baby to chew. According to her, until this day, her child loves eating vegetables and fruits, and doesn’t care too much about fast food or junk food.
Chris’s advice is to read to baby from now. She said reading to baby helps to build and develop her brain, boost her learning of language skills, and improve the bonding between mommy and baby. Very good idea!
After everybody talked about their experience of being a mother, grandma asked everybody to think about a name for the baby girl, and predict a delivery date. She also asked me. Of course I have already had a name in my mind.
The following was opening the gift, eating cake and having some punch, and visiting each other.
The whole baby shower lasted about two hours. Everybody enjoyed the happy moment and I brough home a lot of gorgeous baby clothing and a sweet memory!
