Recipe 2: Green peas & rice mix (for children of 6 months +)

Comments from mommy:
This recipe is as simple as 1, 2, and 3 (actually there are only two steps to make it). But to a 7-month-old baby, it was a perfect start of “big people’s foods”. Since then, DD enjoys the plain flavor and creamy texture of steamed rice.

Ingredients:
1 cup of frozen green peas, 1 cup of rice (white or brown)

Nutrition facts:

Green peas are bursting with nutrients. They are a very good source of vitamin K, folic acid, thiamin-vitamin B1 and a good source of vitamin B6, riboflavin-vitamin B2 and niacin-vitamin B3, and a good source of vitamin B6.

These nutritional values and health benefits make green peas ideal for curing a lot of diseases, including bone mineralization, high cholesterol, age-related macular degeneration and cataracts, cancer and constipation. As a staple food for the majority of the world’s population, rice is an extremely healthy food for a number of reasons.

Rice is a great source of complex carbohydrates, which are digested slowly, allowing the body to utilize the energy released over a longer period which is nutritionally efficient. Rice has no fat, no cholesterol, no gluten, low sugar, and is sodium free, and contains useful quantities of potassium, the B vitamins, thiamin, niacin, iron, riboflavin, vitamin D, calcium, and fiber. It is a fair source of protein containing all eight amino acids.

How to cook?
1. Put ingredients into a steamer and cook until green peas and rice are cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.
2. Scoop some cooked green peas and rice into a blender and mix them together. Serve right away.

How to store?
1. Scoop the cooked green peas and rice mix into cubicles of an ice tray, until all the cubicles are filled.
2. Cover the ice tray with plastic wrap and place the tray into a freezer, about 2 hours.
3. Fill a cooking pan with water until the bottom is covered. Take the ice tray out of the freezer and place it in the cooking pan for about 1-2 minutes.
4. Shake the vegetables cubes out of the tray.
5. put the vegetables cubes into a heavy-duty freezer bag. Store the bag in the freezer for future use. The vegetables cubes can be given to babies as snacks or teething food, added to soup, or thawed in the microwave for direct consumption.
