DD is growing big and strong every day. And I, the mommy, am also growing from a rookie mommy to a savvy mommy.
I learned to take care of the baby, feeding her regularly, keeping her dry and clean, making sure she is warm and cozy, holding her, walking with her, playing with her, taking to her, and doing some simple baby trainings .
I learned to keep up with the house, assigning appropriate time to each chore based on its priority, doing two things or more at once, taking shortcut on lunches and dinners, or sometimes just ignoring the clutter and chaos.
Furthermore, I learned to search and shop good deals on things baby definitely need without compromising their quality. Yes, at this economy, everybody wants to get the most out of the bucks. Little by little, I accumulate my own saving tips. Gladly I am going to share with you. The first one is about how to save on diapers.
Diaper is absolutely a necessity to baby and is one of the reasons Why babies are expensive? It has become part of her life. DD had her first diaper even before her first nursing. Considering issues ranging from convenience, health and cost, currently I chose disposable diapers for her. This means I have to buy diapers regularly.
Since Pampers and Huggies are the most well-known brands in this industry, my choices were narrowed down and I know exactly what I am looking for. Now the question left is how to find the best deals (please be aware that pricing may differ with time changing).
1. Online vs. offline
Normally it is cheaper to buy online and you don’t need to pay sales tax. For example, the price of Pampers Swaddlers, Size N (92ct) in local Babies R Us is $24.99, while the same product on Diapers.com and Amazon.com
were tagged as $20.99.
However, when local stores offer discount and you can use manufacturer’s coupon at the same time, you save more buying offline. I remembered paying $18.49 for Pampers Swaddlers, Size N (92ct) at Babies R Us and got another $1.5 off at the checkout.
By the way, when you shop online, try to find the merchants who offer free shipping. Normally free shipping is available when your order reaches certain amount of value. For an instance, the cut line is $49 at and $25 at Amazon.com. When your order is less than $49 and you still want to enjoy free shipping, you know where to go.
2. Check the unit price
Huggies Snug N Dry Diapers Size 3 sells $17.79 in Babies R Us with 60 units, $10.29 in Target with 40 units, $39.99 at Diapers.com with 168 units, and $36.49 at Amazon.com with 144 units. Which one is the best deal?
Calculate the unit price and you will know: $0.2865 in Babies R Us, $0.25725 in Target, $0.238 at Diapers.com, and $0.2534 at Amazon.com.
Unit price provides you a basic idea when comparing prices. If you are really a penny-pinching mommy, you should also take sales tax and shipping cost into consideration.
3. Save the manufacturer’s coupon
Both Pampers and Huggies offer manufacturer’s coupon to lure customers to buy their products. Save those coupons and make them count. Don’t think you can only use them in local stores. Diapers.com takes manufacturer’s coupons.
You can get those coupons by visiting the official websites and opting in for mailed offers, newsletters and offers for special deals. You can join their loyal customer programs and earn rewards. You can also pick a couple of coupon websites and hit them regularly.
4. Sign in Amazon’s Subscribe & Save Program
I am a big fan of Amazon’s Subscribe & Save Program. When ordering through Amazon’s Subscribe & Save Program
, I automatically receive a new shipment of the item in intervals I select. All subscription orders ship free. Amazon charges my credit card for each order only when the item is shipped, and I can cancel at any time. Plus, I save 15% on the listed price.
Pampers Cruisers Size 3 is marked as $40.69 at Babies R Us with 160 units, $42.99 at Diapers.com with 160 units, and $35.29 at Amazon.com with 116 units. Therefore, the unit price is $0.2732 (including sale tax) in Babies R Us, $0.2998 (including shipping charge) at Diapers.com, and $0.3042 at Amazon.com
. When I signed up Amazon’s Subscribe & Save Program
, the unit price was reduced to $0.2586.
