My baby is a girl!
Acutally the doctor told me this news during my January visit for an ultrasound. At that time I was so overwhelmed by the sad news of finding CPC in baby’s brain! that even this exciting news didn’t excite me at all.
Last week, I came back to the doctor to conduct a follow-up ultrasound, and got a confirmation that it is a girl!
A girl?!
It came as a big surprise, since I heard some many old wife tales and theories before, which all confirmed this baby is a boy.
For example, according to M’s personal experience and a small pool of surveys (among our neighbors and his co-workers), the mother has more morning sickness and feels more unconfortable if it is a girl, while feels more calm and less bothered if it is a boy. Luckily I am one of less than one-half of all expectant women who don’t need to experience the nausea and vomiting associated with morning sickness.
Another theory is, since this baby is so active from the very begining of the gestation, it cannot be a girl. Well, obviously this baby girl proves girls can do anything just like boys, even inside mommy’s tummy.
A third reason that I firmly believed it was a boy is M said so. He told me he once dreamed about holding a boy and a girl on his lap. The boy was a little bit older than the girl. It turned out his prediction was a little bit off this time. What can I say, as the old Chinese saying goes, “even the wisest man, in a thousand schemes, must make at least one mistake”.
So it is a girl!
Fortunately, we happened to have a name ready for this baby girl. We began to work on baby names as soon as I knew I was pregnant. We both thought about all kinds of names, for boy and for girl.
M doesn’t want to name our baby after those big celebrities, such as Alexander, Galileo, Newton, or any fancy things like King, Prince, Princess, and Queen. “Too much pressure for baby”, M thought.
I don’t want to name our baby with too ordinary names, such as John, Mike, Bill, or Mary, Joan, Ann. I want something unique, impressive, and a little bit outstanding.
And I also want to attach a little bit meaning and good wishes into the baby’s name. For an instance, for boy I want him to be kind-hearted, full of responsibility, wise and sociable. For a girl I want her to be affectionate, independent, knowledgeable and beautiful.
I want this name speaks every wish I cherish for my baby. And I am waiting for it to come so naturally to us…
